The Moon & Menses

The menstrual cycle is closely linked to the phases of the moon, as both cycles are approximately 28 days long. Many ancient cultures believed that the moon had a powerful influence on women’s bodies, and that women’s menstrual cycles were particularly sensitive to the phases of the moon.

There are four primary phases of the moon that correspond to the four phases of the menstrual cycle:

1. New Moon: The new moon represents the beginning of the menstrual cycle. During this time, the body is shedding the lining of the uterus and preparing for a new cycle.

2. Waxing Moon: As the moon begins to wax, the body is preparing for ovulation. This is a time of increased energy and heightened sexuality.

3. Full Moon: The full moon represents the peak of fertility, and is often associated with ovulation. Many women feel particularly connected to their bodies and their sexuality during this time.

4. Waning Moon: As the moon begins to wane, the body is preparing for menstruation once again. This is a time of introspection and release, as the body sheds the old cycle and prepares for the new.

Aligning with the phases of the moon can help women become more attuned to their bodies and their menstrual cycles. By paying attention to the moon’s phases, women can gain insight into their own rhythms and cycles, and can use this knowledge to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Some benefits of aligning with the moon and the menstrual cycle include:

– Increased awareness and understanding of your body’s natural rhythms

– Enhanced intuition and creativity

– Improved emotional wellbeing and balance

– Greater connection to nature and the cycles of life

– Deeper sense of self-awareness and empowerment.

To align with the moon and the menstrual cycle, we women can practice a range of self-care activities, such as meditation, journaling, and movement practices like yoga or dance. They can also use certain essential oils and other natural remedies to support their bodies during each phase of the menstrual cycle.
